In order to understand the characteristics of vegetation growth in the Padma River Basin of Bangladesh and its relationship with climate change, the Landsat data was used as data sources to extract normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)of Padma River Basin of Bangladesh in 1980, 2000 and 2017. And we analyzed the characteristics and the trends of NDVI of Padma River Basin by using the spatial analysis method of GIS and mathematical statistical method. Finally, Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation between NDVI and climatic factors. The results showed that:(1)NDVI was dominated by the bare areas in 1980 and 2000, and it was dominated by the low coverage areas in 2017; the distribution of NDVI in the past 40 years was high in the east and south, and it was low in the west and north;(2)the change of NDVI showed a downward trend from 1980 to 2000, and it was on the rise from 2000 to 2017; the vegetation situation in Padma River Basin had improved significantly in the past 40 years;(3)from 1980 to 2017, the annual total rainfall of Padma River Basin increased year by year; the annual average temperature decreased first and then increased, and the general trend was rising;(4)the effect of rainfall on NDVI was higher than temperature overall, the impact of rainfall on NDVI was more pronounced in arid areas of the basin, and the effect of temperature on NDVI was more pronounced in areas with higher rainfall. These results not only provide references for the increase of vegetation in Padma River Basin and the restoration of ecological environment, but also provide a theoretical basis for the ecological development of Chinese regional development of the Belt and Road.
