A variety of ecological problems are caused by rapid urbanization, and the construction of ecological security pattern is the active regulation of ecological process. In order to build a scientific and reasonable ecological security pattern, taking Hohhot City as the study area, this paper built a regional land expansion index system in terms of natural environment, resource condition and human interference. Then this paper established a regional security pattern by MCR model, identified potential ecological corridors and strategical points, and constructed an ecological network framework, so as to partition the urban spatial control and make ecological spatial planning. The results show that: the type of circle distribution of ecological security areas is apparent. The areas with higher security level account for 22.47 percent of the total study area, which shows that the overall level of ecological security is low. There are 15 potential ecological corridors, 7 first-class ecological corridors, 9 ecological strategic points in the study area, which optimizes the ecological security pattern of point, line and plane. The ecological network framework, the pattern of ‘one scope, two belts, two axes, and multi centers', is of great significance to upgrade the quality of regional habitats, promote the ecosystem service values, protect biodiversity and optimize urban human settlements. All results illustrate that the key zones for development are Saihan District, Jinhe Town and Xiaoheihe Town. It is recommended that the focus of urban be guided to move to the south and southeast. Besides, it should be developed the new urban areas, and conducted the rational agglomeration of population and industry. The results can provide theoretical reference for ecological environment management.
