- Abstract:

[Objective] Urbanization is an important factor affecting the pattern of regional ecological security. Clarifying the relationship between urbanization and ecological environment quality can provide reference for decision-making in promoting regional ecological protection and high-quality development. [Methods] Based on the analysis of the temporal and spatial variation pattern evolution of urbanization and ecological environment quality in Shaanxi Province every five years from 2000 to 2020, we analyzed the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of the coupling relationship between urbanization and ecological environment quality by constructing an evaluation system of urbanization and ecological environment quality. [Results] The urbanization level of Shaanxi Province presented a steady upward trend, the average RSEI of Shaanxi Province presented a steady upward trend, and the eco-environment presented a trend of improvement. However, the differences between regions were still significant, and the overall distribution pattern was low level in the north and high level in the south. The coupling coordination degree of the two showed a trend of fluctuation and rise. There was a significant gap between the coupling and coordinated development of eco-environment and urbanization in each county of Shaanxi Province, but with the passing of time, the number of coordinated development areas was gradually increasing. In contrast, the coupling coordination between urbanization and eco-environmental quality in northern Shaanxi Province showed a relatively backward situation. [Conclusion] There was an obvious gap in the coupling coordination relationship between urbanization and eco-environmental quality in Shaanxi Province, but the overall trend was getting better from 2000 to 2020. It is suggested that on the road of urbanization, Shaanxi Province should strengthen the ability of green ecological development, make up for the ecological weakness, adjust to local conditions, and formulate a more scientific and reasonable rural revitalization policy.
