[Objective]The aims of this study are to explore the coupled and coordinated rural human-land systems, to provide decision-making references for the sustainable development of the countryside, the coordination of rural human-land, and to promote the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy. [Methods]The spatial-temporal coupling characteristics of rural population and land in Heilongjiang Province from 2000 to 2020 were revealed by using the analysis of spatial hotspots, coupled coordination degree model. [Results](1)The rural resident population of Heilongjiang Province showed a continuous decline trend from 2000 to 2020. At the same time, the cultivated land and the construction land increased slightly. The construction land, mainly industrial and transportation land expanded rapidly.(2)During the study period, the hot spots of cultivated land change in Heilongjiang Province showed a trend of changing from west to east. The hot spots of construction land change showed a trend of gradually spreading to east and west, and the hot spots of rural population change showed a trend of changing from south to north.(3)The coupled human and land level in Heilongjiang Province showed a small increase, but most districts and counties were still in a state of serious imbalance and near imbalance. The coupling coordination degree of ‘population-cultivated land' increased from 0.34 to 0.38, and the coupling coordination degree of ‘population-construction land' increased from 0.44 to 0.50. [Conclusion]Since 2000, the trend of uncoordinated relationship between people and land in rural areas in Heilongjiang Province has become prominent, which restricts the sustainable development of rural areas. The regulation measures include scientifically guiding the return of talents, giving play to the radiation and driving role of areas with high coupling coordination according to local conditions, and improving the degree of industrial diversification and policy support in areas with medium and low coupling coordination.
