[Objective] Accurate evaluation of the impact of ‘production-ecology-living' land use transformation on eco-environmental quality can provide a scientific foundation for national land optimization and regional high-quality development. [Methods] Based on the land use data of Poyang Lake city cluster in 2000, 2010 and 2020, the analysis of land use transformation, eco-environmental effects and its gradient divergence characteristics was carried out through land transfer matrix, eco-environmental quality index and terrain distribution index. [Results](1)From 2000 to 2010, the living land had grown significantly(1 063.45 km2), the ecological land continued to shrink(997.41 km2), the productive land was generally stable. The main land transformation pattern was the encroachment of urban living land and industrial and mining productive land on agricultural productive land and forest ecological land.(2)From 2000 to 2010, with the expansion of industrial and mining productive land and urban and rural living land, the eco-environmental quality index fell from 1.428 to 1.424. from 2010 to 2020, along with the restoration of ecological land and the optimization of the pattern of urban living land and industrial and mining productive land, the eco-environmental quality index rose from 1.424 to 1.447.(3)The overall spatial distribution pattern was ‘high in the east and west and low in the middle', forming the central eco-environmental quality low value area centered on Nanchang metropolitan area, and the east and west high value area centered on Yichun, Jingdezhen and Shangrao.(4)With the rise of topographic gradient, the distribution index of low-quality area declined, and the high-quality area showed a dominant distribution. From 2000 to 2020, low-quality area tended to shift to higher topographic gradients, and the downward trend of higher-quality area and high-quality area was evident. [Conclusion] The overall ecological quality of the study area had improved over the twenty years, with large differences in spatial distribution. The land use transformation had led to a double change in land use attribute and their spatial pattern. It is recommended that when laying out various types of land, it is necessary to pay attention to the ‘total control' of production and living land, but also to ensure the integrity and connectivity of ecological space.
