[Objective] In order to provide reference for ecological protection, construction and sustainable development of Haihe River Basin, the temporal and spatial changes of vegetation coverage(FVC)in growing season and its driving forces were investigated. [Methods] Based on MODIS NDVI remote sensing data and 18 influencing factors of the same period, trend analysis and M-K significance test were used to analyze the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of vegetation coverage during the growing season of Haihe River Basin from 2001 to 2019. The spatial differentiation characteristics and driving forces are discussed by means of geographic detector. [Results] During the growing season of Haihe River Basin from 2001 to 2019, the vegetation coverage showed a significant upward trend, with a linear tendency rate of 0.063/decade, and the growth rate slowed down after 2011. The vegetation coverage was relatively high in the Bohai Bay area and some urban areas. The area of improvement area was much larger than that of degradation area, and the improvement part was dominated by extremely significant improvement, accounting for 60.42% of the total basin area. The spatial variation of vegetation coverage in Haihe River Basin during the growing season was mainly determined by the proportion of forest land and the proportion of mixed forest-grass land, and the explanatory power was more than 30%. The strongest explanation for the interaction of vegetation coverage in Haihe River Basin during the growing season was the ratio of mixed forest and grass land and the ratio of farmland. [Conclusion] Overall vegetation coverage increased significantly in Haihe River Basin, and the main driving force was the proportion of forest land and the proportion of mixed forest and grass land.
