The spatiotemporal coupling relationship between ecological protection and high-quality development in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was examined in order to provide new ideas and basis for regional sustainable development, we used the TOPSIS model to calculate the 2010—2019 Guangxi ecological protection and high-quality development index, and used the coupling coordination degree model and the spatial autocorrelation model to analyze the level of coordination, temporal and spatial evolution and agglomeration effect of the two. The results show that:(1)the level of ecological protection in Guangxi showed a fluctuating growth trend; cities with high levels of ecological protection are mainly located in northeastern Guangxi, while cities with low levels of ecological protection concentrated in the central and southern coastal cities, ‘middle area' is mainly located in western Guangxi. Transition to a global type;(2)the level of high-quality development in Guangxi had undergone an evolutionary process of ‘accelerating growth, steady optimization, improving quality and efficiency', with the index rose from 0.256 to 0.622, showing a spatially similar ‘+' shaped belt development pattern;(3)Guangxi's ecological protection and high-quality development coordination level continued to improve, gradually transited to the primary and intermediate coordination stage, the coordination type of each city had experienced a gradient improvement stage of ‘endangered-barely, barely coordinated, coordinated-primary, intermediate coordination', forming a high and low development trend of ‘one core, three secondary and three belts';(4)the Moran's I index of inter-city coordination in Guangxi was negative and showed a downward trend, showing negative correlation distribution characteristics, difference between cities continued to increase, and Yulin, Nanning, Liuzhou, Guilin City had become a regional high-value polarization main areas. Applying the ‘Five-sphere integrated' development concept to economic development and continuing to promote ecological governance and restoration is the key to promote the high-level coordination of ecological protection and high-quality development.
