Exploring the relationship between vegetation cover changes and climatic factors and human activities is useful for the effective management of regional ecological environment. Therefore, taking MOD13Q1 data and meteorological data as data base,we studied the spatial and temporal variation characteristics of vegetation NDVI and its correlation with climatic factors in Chongqing from 2001 to 2018,and quantitatively evaluated the contribution of each climatic factor and human activities to the inter-annual variation of vegetation NDVI with the method based on partial derivatives. The results show that:(1)the vegetation NDVI change in Chongqing from 2001 to 2018 shows the increasing trend as a whole;(2)in the past 18 years, the vegetation cover and restoration in Chongqing have been in good condition the region where the vegetation cover and restoration significantly increased or extremely significantly increased accounts for 85.15% of the area; the vegetation restoration in large area is related to ecological engineering;(3)the partial correlation coefficient between vegetation NDVI and precipitation and temperature in Chongqing is mainly positive correlation, and the main planting areas of crops in Chongqing are the regions where the two climatic factors are positively correlated;(4)the vegetation in most areas of Chongqing is promoted by precipitation and temperature, and the average inter-annual change rate of NDVI is 0.006 1/a,and the average contribution of climate factors and human activities is 0.001 3/a and 0.004 8/a,respectively. In general, human activities have a stronger positive impact on variation of vegetation coverage, and ecological engineering meausres such as afforestation and conversion of farmland to forests have significantly improved the vegetation in a large area of Chongqing, while the urban expansion induced by human activities has led to vegetation degradation in urban areas.
