In order to explore the spatial-temporal differences and dynamic evolution characteristics of urban land use efficiency in Gansu Province, the evaluation index system of urban land use under environmental constraints was constructed, and the spatial-temporal differences and evolution characteristics of urban land use efficiency was estimated by the SBM-Undesirable model with windows and Kernel density estimation in Gansu Province under environmental constraints from 2005 to 2016. The results showed that:(1)the total urban land use efficiency of Gansu Province was at a medium level, and the difference of land use efficiency between cities was observably remarkable, which showed an overall upward trend;(2)the spatial distribution of urban land use efficiency had distribution characteristics of regional non-equilibrium, and the number of cities with medium and high efficiency increased in Gansu Province;(3)the urban land use efficiency in different regions of Gansu Province presented the regional difference characteristics, which showed the order: the Southern nationalities>Hexi>Longdong>Longzhong>Longnan;(4)the technical efficiency of urban land use in Gansu Province was affected by two kinds of decomposition efficiency, and scale efficiency contributed more to technology efficiency than pure technology efficiency;(5)the efficiency of urban land use in Gansu Province was polarized in regional space, and the regional spatial disparity showed the trend of ‘aggravation—slowdown—aggravation'.
