In order to better measure and analyze the spatial and temporal dynamics of ecological footprint and the utilization efficiency of natural capital of the urban agglomeration in Yangtze River Delta. Based on the ‘national hectare', the parameters of ecological footprint model were revised, and the spatial and temporal changes of per capita ecological footprint in urban agglomeration of the Yangtze River Delta from 2006 to 2016 were calculated and analyzed. On this basis, the utilization efficiency of natural capital in the study area was evaluated and analyzed through the ecological footprint per unit of 10 000 yuan GDP(WEF). The results show that the per capita ecological footprint of 26 cities in the urban agglomeration of Yangtze River Delta showed the upward trend in the time series from 2006 to 2016, and the per capita GDP ecological footprint index of 26 cities in the urban agglomeration of Yangtze River Delta showed a downward trend from 2006 to 2016, which indicates that in the past 10 years, the utilization of natural capital by cities in the urban agglomeration of Yangtze River Delta has been declining. The efficiency was increasing year by year. According to the research results, in order to achieve the sustainable development of the region, the energy structure should be optimized, the green economy and industries with small environmental impact should be vigorously developed, and the transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure should be strengthened in the study area.
