According to typhoon data of counties and districts in East Guangdong in the period 1989-2017, under the guidance of the typhoon disaster system theory, risk of typhoon disaster, exposed vulnerability of carrier and ability of disaster prevention and reduction in east Guangdong region were assessed by using GIS technology. Based on those assessments, the typhoon disaster risk assessment system of east Guangdong was established, and maps of typhoon risk distribution were made. The results showed that the southwest of east Guangdong was the high frequency of typhoon disaster area or regions with high-value of hazard, so typhoon forecast should be improved in this area. The regions with high-value vulnerability of hazard-affected body were found in Rongcheng, Chaoyang, Jinping, Chenghai, Nan’ao. It is necessary to adjust land use structure, and improve population quality and the ability to defense typhoon to reduce the vulnerability of hazard-affected body. Luhe had the lowest ability for disaster prevention and mitigation. It is necessary to increase investment in health care and improve the ability of undertaking support. Based on the assessment results, regions with high-value of risk were centralized in Luhe, Lufeng, Huilai, Nanao, and those areas should be considered as the important districts of typhoon disaster prevention.
