Given characteristics of the western desertification areas, this paper established the evaluation index system of land ecological security for Jiuquan City by employing PSR model. Based on this, this paper evaluated and analyzed Jiuquan City's land ecological security by using weighted method and comprehensive evaluation method. The results show that between 2000 and 2011, the level of Jiuquan City's land ecological security fluctuated around sensitive level, demonstrated obvious ecological problems. Among these years, the year of 2002 was the worst one with risky level, however, the year of 2011 was the best one with favorable level. Overall, decreased growth rate of population, reducing environmental pollution, increased farming level and enhancing social economic development commonly contribute to the improvements of Jiuquan City's land ecological security.
