Studies on the ecological adaptability and benefit of soil and water conservation of two species of Eleutherococcus senticosus were conducted in order to solve problems on lack of plant species grown in field bund and poor benefit of soil and water conservation in the northeast black earth area in the hilly land by building ladder ridge and field ridge test area and planting long stems Eleutherococcus senticosus and short stems Eleutherococcus senticosus in ridge, setting up the runoff test area, and selecting natural bare land as control in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang province,. Based on the effect of Eleutherococcus senticosus biomass on sediment and runoff, economic benefit and soil moisture content, the soil and water conservation benefits and ecological adaptability of Eleutherococcus senticosus in the northeast black soil area were studied. Results show that the thistle Eleutherococcus senticosus and short stem Eleutherococcus senticosus grown on ladder rideg and field ridge have the good adaptability; the soil erosion rate in Eleutherococcus senticosus test area of the northeast black earth area is less than the tolerance soil erosion rate 200 t/(km2·a), meeting the requirements of soil and water conservation function; observed soil moisture content of different depths in ridge grown Eleutherococcus senticosus was much higher than that of the control; in the third year, the planting economic benefits of ladder ridge grown short stems Eleutherococcus senticosus and long stems Eleutherococcus senticosus reached up to 96 880 yuan/hm2 and 10 740 yuan/hm2, respcectively. The economic benefits of field ridge grown short stems Eleutherococcus senticosus and long stems Eleutherococcus senticosus reached to 47 700 yuan/hm2 and 10 665 yuan/hm2, respectively, economic benefit is significant. Compared two species of Eleutherococcus senticosu, short stems Eleutherococcus senticosus is bwtter than the long stems Eleutherococcus senticosus.
