Using the 250 m resolution of MODIS-NDVI data from 2001 to 2009, as well as combining with dimidiate pixel model and terrain data of Huangshui watershed, the characteristics of dynamic changes of vegetation cover were analyzed in the past 9 years in this paper. Results showed that spatial pattern vegetation cover was obviously different of whole watershed. Based on terrain feature, vegetation coverage had obvious eco-geographical distribution characteristics of high mountain region (69.47%), middle mountain region (56.46%) and loess hill region (45.43%). The average vegetation coverage of the whole area was slightly decreased over the last 9 years. The high vegetation coverage decreased by 17.23%, and upper vegetation coverage increased by 12.15%. Analyzing spatial changing characteristics of vegetation cover in the whole study area, we can see that most sharply transforms were represented between high and upper vegetation coverage in high mountain region, relative stabilization of middle mountain region, also obviously transform of loess hill region.
