In order to further understand the mechanism and critical condition of sub-ground erosion, in this paper, firstly, the conceptual model of ‘piping’, ‘seepage compression’, ‘soil flowing’, ‘soil bursting’ were accuratelly definated on the bases of extensive literatures research. In the defination, the flow direction are extended to all directions for the defination of ‘soil flowing’ and ‘soil bursting’. Secondly, on the basis of force analysis, the formula discribing the critical condition of sub-ground erosion were drivated by the analytical method. Finally, the author suggested that the specific circumstances should be considered before the confirming of ciritical conditions. The work in this paper formed a theoretical basis for further study about sub-ground erosion.
