It is important to study the soil moisture content and its spatial variability of the dunes in spring for the vegetation construction and the sand-fixation project. This article has studied the surface soil moisture of windward, leeward and inter-dune lowland in April of semi-fixed dunes in south Gurbantonggut desert. The results showed that soil water content of inter-dune lowland (14.86%) is higher than that of windward (7.65%) and leeward (7.38%). The variation degree of soil water is positively related to the soil water content, and the variation degree order is soil water in inter-dune lowland, windward and leeward with the variation coefficient are 0.23, 0.15, 0.14 respectively. There is a clear spatial autocorrelation of soil water in all positions, the best fitted semivariogram models of windward and leeward are spherical model, and is exponential model for inter-dune lowland. There is big separation distance difference among three positions, whose separation distances are 24.32 m, 8.79m and 91.00 m. The contour line map of soil water content indicates that the soil water content of middle and bottom part is higher than that in the top part slope, it also exhibits the obvious spatial variability.
