The microstructure characteristic of rock frequently can reflect its macroscopic properties well, so it is very important and significant to deeply study on the microstructure characteristic of rock for controlling its macroscopic properties and engineering construction. This paper, through the electronic microscope scanning experiment to the common sandstone and mudstone, fully explain the similarities and differences of macroscopic mechanical characteristics from microstructure characteristic, such as softening, shock resistance and wave transmission, and so on. Base on this, it suggests that blast construction to hard rock ought to pay attention to the influence of blasting quantity and way to rock strength, and soft rock should especially take note of the influence of water. At the same time, it still thinks that the large scale destruction and cracking of hard brittle rock in earthquake are able to have connection with its microscopic characteristic, and suggests deeply study it.
