Highway construction recently developed fast in Shandong province, which caused serious environmental pollution at the same time of improving the regional economy. The ecological environmental effects of three national highways and five expressways were evaluated by factor analysis in this paper. The results indicated that the environmental quality of Tongjiang-Sanya and Rizhao-Dongying expressways was relatively better than Ji’nan-Qingdao, Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Fuzhou expressways due to smaller traffic vehicle density. Compared to expressways, the environmental quality of national highways was not worse in spite of longer service time.
