Since the UK Trust Fund China Watershed Management Project was formally initiated in March 2004, the project has conducted a series of investigations, exploration and practices and achieved some innovative outcomes in realizing the project objective. This paper briefly introduces the main innovative experience achieved by the project, including employing the participatory approach in soil and water conservation and watershed management, focusing on sustainable livelihood development, initiating the inter-sectors collaboration and resource integration, carrying out the CCD management and development pattern and improving the monitoring and evaluation system. The practices of the project has suggested that the innovative practices are of great value as for the similar soil and water conservation projects in the future, especially in terms of arousing the active participation of villagers, improving the use efficiency of resources and funds, facilitating the effects of poverty reduction and realizing the sustainable soil and water conservation development and watershed management.
