The observed meteorological data of 34 meteorological stations from 1960 to 2009 in Chongqing City of China were collected and a relative humidity index of meteorological drought was used to analyze the temporal and spatial characteristics of drought frequency and intensity. Based on the methods of Inverse Distance Weighted methods on ArcGIS, running t-test and Morlet wavelet analysis, the temporal and spatial patterns of meteorological drought frequency and intensity, mutated years and oscillating periods were revealed. The results showed as follows:(1) the spatial distributions of drought frequency and intensity in whole year, spring, summer, hot season, autumn and winter were different. The drought frequency and intensity were the highest in winter, and the lowest in summer. (2) the abrupt change of drought frequency shifts from more to less level in 1982, and the abrupt change of drought intensity shifts from the weak to heavy level in 1978. And the abrupt change years of drought frequency and intensity are not the same in different durations. (3) the departure sequence vibrations of annual and seasonal drought frequency and intensity are different.
