Flood land soils in the estuary of Huai River were investigated for analysis of soil salinity profile types, the variation of the physical and chemical properties and the relation between them. The result showed that along with the distance far from the estuary, characteristics of soil salt content distribution in the soil profiles varied and fell into three types:surface accumulation profiles (SAP), oscillation profiles (OP) and equably distribution profiles (EDP). The soil particle composition is dominated by silt and sand, content of clay is less. Salt distribution of surface accumulation profiles (SAP) is significantly correlated to soil texture, but salt distribution of oscillation profiles (OP) and equably distribution profiles (EDP) are not negatively correlated with soil texture. Organicorganic matter in 0—350 cm soil depth in the study area is low. Salt distribution of oscillation profiles (OP) is negatively correlated with organic matter content, but salt distribution of surface accumulation profiles (SAP) and equably distribution profiles (EDP) are not significantly correlated with organic matter content. The soil in the study area is weak alkaline soil and the soil in partial area belongs to alkali soil.
