In this paper, Landsat TM image data, digital elevation model DEM, soil type data, base maps and statistical information were used as data source. By using GIS and RS techniques, this paper comprehensively evaluated the ecological environment quality of the sandstone area in 2000 and 2010 by using principal component analysis evaluation model. The results showed that eco-environmental quality of the sandstone area in 2000 and 2010 was ordinary, but it had been improved in 2010 compared with 2000. Assessing eco-environmental quality by using GIS and RS is an effective means for the area with large range, complicated condition, or difficulty to gain the necessary data.
