To quantitatively evaluate the state of ecological sustainable development in Guizhou, the ecological footprint analysis method was used to calculate and analyze the ecological footprints of Guizhou from 2007 to 2011 with the data from the statistical yearbooks. The results show that during the study period, the ecological footprint per capita of Guizhou increased to 1.044 3 hm2 from 0.962 4 hm2 and the ecological capacity per capita reduced from 0.427 4 hm2 to 0.405 2 hm2, and the ecological footprint per capita exceeded the ecological capacity per capita, ecological deficit arises, the maximum ecological deficit per capita is 0.648 square kilometers per capita in 2010. The continued ecological deficit indicates the ecological environment of Guizhou is in an insecurity status, difficult to achieve sustainable development. The main reason for the increase of the ecological footprint per capita is the increase of the energy consumption footprint, the decrease of the cultivated land resource leads to decline of the ecological capacity per capita. Based on this, were suggestions including strengthening the management and utilization of the land resources and so on put forward in order to reduce the ecological deficit.
