Land is one of scarce natural resources, the construction in an area should be based on the land. The comprehensive analysis of the land use can show the scope, depth and rationality of it. It also be helpful to analysis the internal mechanism of land use change, and provide the basis for adjustment and optimization of the land use structure. Based on the RS and GIS, the land use status data of the Three Gorges Reservoir area were obtained by using the TM images of 2010. The land use statuses were analyzed with the methods of quantitative geography and landscape ecology in this paper. The results indicate that: due to the different of natural conditions and social and economic condition, there are difference between each counties of the Three Gorges Reservoir area in land type diversification, combination type form and locational index. From the land use diversity index, Xishan’s land use type is the most single, and forest is mainly land use. Form land use degree, the highest degree of land use is in Yuzhong District. Form integrated land use index, Changshou District is the lowest. The results provide references for making policies to protect the ecological environment of the Three Gorges Reservoir area.
