Based on coupling coordination characteristics of intensive urban land use and urbanization, coupling coordination degree model and relative development degree evaluation model was built. Coupling coordination development degree and relative development degree of eleven cities in Hebei Province from 2001 to 2010 were estimated. The results showed that the system gradually developed from antagonist period to run-in and coordination period with respect to the coupling coordination degree timing characteristics. Intensive urban land use tended simultaneous development with urbanization. Coordinated development degree presented partition clustering features in respect of spatial characteristics. The eastern coastal cities had higher levels of coupling coordination, and cities in northern region had lower levels of coupling coordination. Cities in central region developed stably, and with the advancement of time, the coupling coordination relationships gradually optimize.
