Based on the data from 1957—2005 in Dakeng Small Watershed in Northwestern Jiangxi Province, the analysis of precipitation variation and its runoff response were carried out by mean of time-serial eigenvalue, statistical regression. The results suggested that: (1) annual mean precipitation is 1 596.3 mm, which monthly variation has presented a single-peak pattern during a year, and the difference of quarterly precipitation is very obvious. What’s more, the annual variation of precipitation is bigger and presents increasing tendency totally; (2) annual mean runoff depth is 814.3 mm, which monthly variation has presented a single-peak pattern during a year, and the difference of quarterly runoff depth is very obvious. What’s more, the anuual variation of runoff depth is bigger and presents increasing tendency totally; (3) runoff depth changes are closely correlated with precipitation variations. While annual hydrological precipitation increased or decreased by 10%, annual runoff depth shows 17.8% of positive response. Meanwhile, while anuual hydrological precipitation increased or decreased by 20%(30%), the corresponding anuual runoff depth shows 35.6%(53.4%)of positive response.
