Two shrubs planted in the testing areas are studied through measurement of growth indices and pull-out test in site to evaluate the effects of two shrubs on slope protection.The statistical results of growth indices show that height,root length,root diameter and lateral root number of two shrubs increase with the proceeding of the growth period.And root length,root diameter of Caragana korshinskⅡ are significantly greater than that of Zygophyllum xanthoxylon,while height and lateral root number are less.Field pull-out tests show that pull-out resistance of two shrubs also increase with height,root length,root diameter and lateral root number;The pull-out resistances of Zygophyllum xanthoxylon are larger than that of Caragana korshinski with the same growth period.The mechanical effects of Caragana korshinski on slope protection are better than that of Zygophyllum xanthoxylon according to growth indices and pull-out resistance of two shrubs in the testing areas.
