SiB2 (simple biosphere model Version 2) can be used to simulate the dynamic change of the flux of water, heat and carbon. In order to discuss its applicability in plain for our country, this paper simply introduced the structure and control equations of SiB2 at first, and then used it to simulate the surface energy budget in Weishan irrigation area based on the data of Weishan observation station. The results showed that the simulated net radiation, latent heat flux, sensible heat flux and CO2 flux were shown to be basically in agreement with observations with their linear correlation coefficient being 0.988, 0.714, 0.607, 0.677 and 0.933 respectively. In addition, the simulated value of sensible heat flux and CO2 flux were higher than the observed value and the simulated net radiation and latent heat flux were lower than the observed ones. In addition, MODIS LAI products were used to drive the model and found that the simulation results were not satisfactory except net radiation. Therefore, at the observing site scale, the remote sensing MODIS LAI products are not suitable for driving SiB2 model.
