With the field survey and the aid of ERDAS software, the images(TM) of Yushen mining area in 2000 and 2008 were interpreted. Landscape Index was extracted by Fragstats software, the dynamic changes of landscape and and its driving forces were studied. The results show that sandy land is the background landscape of Yushen mining area, accounting for 46.81% of the study area in 2008. During the 8 years (2000-2008), part of mobile and semi-mobile sandy land turned into bush; the area of construction land went the fastest; the number of patches, landscape diversity index and evenness index increased. Natural factors like climate change coupled with artificial ones, like grazing ban and the coal mining were the main driving factors.
