Wushan county is located in the central region of the Three Gorges Reservoir area. When the Three Gorges Reservoir impounds, the contradiction between people and land in the Three Gorges Reservoir area will become even more acute. Taking Wushan county as the research object, counting and analyzing the ecological footprint of Wushan county in 2006 based on ecological footprint model. The result shows that: its per capita ecological footprint is 1.296 9 hm2, available ecological capacity per capita is only 0.559 2 hm2, and per capita ecological deficit is as high as 0.737 7 hm2 in 2006. Among them, the major ecological deficit of products derived from cultivated land, lawn land and energy consumption land. Thus, human’s consumption of natural resources in social activities exceeded the capacity of ecosystem in Wushan county, its regional development is unsustainable. On the base of analysis, the suggestions for the sustainable development of Wushan county is put forward.
