Abstract:: Topography is one of the most important natural factors influencing the landscape spatial pattern. To analyze the relationship between topography types and landscape spatial pattern, a case study was carried out in Liling city, Hu’nan province, which was focusing on the characteristics of landscape spatial pattern under the different topography types by using GIS technology and landscape ecological approaches. It was found:(1)The landscape spatial pattern was obviously influenced by the landform types in the study area, the same landscape element forms different landscape patterns in the dissimilar topography region. On the whole, the landscape pattern was dominated by forestland and irrigated land; (2)As the elevation increased, the advantage of forestland became more obvious, the percentage of other types of landscape gradually reduced, so the landscape diversity showed the decreasing tendency;(3)Plain and low-hill areas showed the high degree of spatial heterogeneity and fragmentation, while the landscape types were relatively simple and showed high value of the dominance index and stable ecosystem in the high mountain areas.
