Southwest China is one of the areas with serious soil erosion in China.Chinese government has initiated a series of projects and invested large amounts of funds for soil erosion control in this region.Based on the investigation data from 1988 to 2005,sources and uses of the investment for soil and water conservation (SWC) and its impacts on rural industrial structure and poverty alleviation were analyzed.Results showed a significant increase of the investment of SWC,Chinese government invested more than 6.1 billion yuan,farmer investment has 5.5 billion yuan.The investment of SWC played an important role on improvements the ecological environment and economic conditions.The area of fruit tree increased very quickly recently and the percentage of fruit tree increased from 17.7% to 21.3%.The measures of SWC improves the regional economic conditions.The total agricultural value from SWC increased 53.8 billion yuan,and the net income per peasant increased 1909.6 yuan.
