In this paper, soil water holding ability and its relationship to soil organic carbon under five different Ziwuling secondary vegetations (Quercus liaotungensis,Populus davidiana,Seabuckthorn,Sophora viciifolia,Bothriochloa ischaemum) were studied by means of laboratory research and field vegetation survey. The results were as follows:① Among the five vegetations the soil water holding capacity had the following order:Quercus liaotungensis>Populus davidiana>Sophora viciifolia>Bothriochloa ischaemum>Seabuckthorn.Soil water holding capacity improved with vegetation succession except for Seabuckthorn.② The specific water capacity of soil showed as tree>shrub>grass.③ The parameter A, soil available water and unavailable water all had a good correlation to soil organic carbon, and the correlation coefficient is up to 0.83,0.80 and 0.79 respectively.
