Abstract:: Cultivated land transfer is one of the research hotspots of the ‘three agricultural problems’ in China. Based on the formal study about cultivated land transfer and the field survey in Yuanzhou District on the Loess Plateau, we conclude the primary cultivated land transfer pattern of rural areas on the Loess Plateau. According to the analyses of revenue and expenditure structure of farmer family, we developed the farmer household benefit analysis formula. With the formula, we analyzed the benefits of farmer income, and evaluated the overall efficiency through the economy, society and ecological benefits aspects. The current cultivated land transfer on the Loess Plateau is developing fast and 42.5% of farmers have taken part in the land transfer. The farmers’ income and living standards have been enhanced significantly. Of the four cultivated land transfer patterns, farmer spontaneous pattern is the most widely existed pattern on the Loess Plateau, agricultural cooperative spur pattern has an evident rural residents’ income benefit which can up to 12 072.99 Yuan per year, leading enterprise driving pattern can largely promote the scale management of cultivated land but the farmers’ income benefit is limited. Government directing pattern has the most balance comprehensive benefits of economy, society and ecology. The geographic environment on the Loess Plateau is crucial to the choice of cultivated land transfer pattern.
