In this paper, for the sake of TRMM data better application in our country, we presented a computational model for estimation of precipitation based on the data from TRMM and NCEP-FNL. With the prevailing wind direction of each month calculated by NCEP-FNL data, and coupled with the observational data of meteorological station and DEM data, a monthly stepwise regression algorithm for a certain region was constructed. By employing the estimation model, we obtained the spatial distribution of precipitation of China in January, April, July and October from 2000 to 2007. Further analysis and calculation showed that the averaged absolute errors for January, April, July and October were 2.2 mm, 5.8 mm, 16.9 mm and 6.0 mm, respectively; and the averaged relative errors are 19.3%, 14.2%, 13.4% and 18.9%, respectively. The estimated data significantly diminishes the errors of that from TRMM. Moreover, the global distribution of precipitation remains almost the same with that of the original TRMM data, while the results of our model nicely present the distribution pattern of precipitation for both windward and leeward slope.
