The leaf water potential (LWP) of 3-year-old Shepherdia argentea was measured by PSYPRO water potential guage from May to August in 2008.This paper analyzed daily and monthly variations of LWP of Shepherdia argentea and related factors. The results showed: daily changes of LWP were double-peak curves every month except May and the minimum peak value of LWP took place at 13:00-15:00.The most critical periods for water supply in growing season were June and July and in which LWP were lower. The study also showed changes of transpiration rate depended on daily changes of LWP which had a significant negative correlation to air temperature and intensity of illumination and a significant positive correlation to air relative humidity under the full water supply. Moreover, integrated meteorological factors played an important role in changes of LWP.What’s more,pre-dawn LWP of potted Shepherdia argentea had a significant positive correlation to soil water content when soil water was restricted and permanent wilting percentage of Shepherdia argentea was 4.76%.
