Soil loss was predicted and risk areas of soil erosion were identified in Dahongshan Iron Mine at Xinping of Yunnan province by means of combinin geographical information system (GIS) and universal soil loss equation (USLE). The results showed that the area of regional soil erosion was predicted to be 5.54 km2, which was 65.17% of the studied area. The annual soil loss is 4.855×104 t. And the erosion area will not change too much in 50 years, but annual soil loss amount will decline to 2.736×104 t, at a reducing rate of 43.65%. The change trend of accomplished vegetation rehabilitation is that the erosion loss amount of highly eroded area will reduce. And the erosion loss amount of low-grade erosion area will increase.
