The development of monitoring water pollution using remote sensing techniques is reviewed.The reflectance characteristic of polluted water and methods of monitoring water pollution applying remote sensing technique are discussed.The applications of remote sensing technology to water pollution monitoring are illustrated,including density of the suspended substance in water,oil pollution,municipal sewage and eutrophication.Finally,it is pointed out that the main problems and future development of water pollution monitoring by remote sensing technique.The applications of water pollution monitoring by remote sensing in the future are proposed.
