Abstract:: The ecological footprint method presents a simple framework for national and natural capital accounting. Taking Hengyang City as an example, the authors calculated and analyzed the ecological footprint of Hengyang City in 2004, with a conclusion that the ecological footprint of Hengyang City has exceeded its eco-capacity and posed a tremendous pressure on ecological system based on the present situation of environment and sustainable development of city. Some countermeasures are given to solve this problem.
