- To assess the spatial and temporal changes in land use/cover and landscape in Liushahe watershed,relief maps published in 1965 were digitized,and three Landsat MSS/TM/ETM images from 1976,1988 and 2003 were classified by Erdas Imagine then converted to shape format based on Arc View,and rest of the analyses were performed in GIS environments based polices and traditional nation customs.The results show that the spatial pattern of land use was decided by natural conditions,but polices and traditional nation customs impact greatly.There is more forest with high density of population in the mountain area near campagna,while there is little forest with low density of population in the mountain area far from campagna,which suggests that traditional nation customs impact the spatial pattern of land use greater than population density,and polices impact the temporal variation pattern of land use in the Liushahe watershed.From 1965 to 2003,the land use/land cover changed greatly.The main land use type is forest land in 1965,1976,1988 and 2003,but it keeping decreasing from 1976,and the land use types that impact greatly by human activity,such as cultivated land,are increasing.The interruption of human activity for land use is gathering.
