Distribution of heavy metals in the sediments from the Yitong River (Changchun section) was studied. It is indicated that amounts of heavy metals varied markedly along the river selected. Iron existed mainly in the form of residue, and most of other metals, including Mn, Pb, Cu, and Zn, existed in the form of available speciations (70%). The resulted information also showed that potential pollution of heavy metals are obvious in the sediments of the river, and Pb and Cu mainly accumulated in organic and residual forms with Zn in Fe and Mn oxides.
