A small watershed is the basic unit of comprehensively controlling soil and water loss.It is very important for designing soil and water conservation measures and preventing soil and water loss to quantitatively study its spatial distribution of erosion yield. The quantitative research on soil erosion, as one of the key research focuses, has been studied in China for 50 years and much work has been done in this field. To summarize the past achievement is of significance to our research work for the further. On the basis of reviewing the past and present situations of the quantitative research on soil erosion in China, some quantitative researches and the recent development, including the relationship between soil erosion and some chief natural factors causing soil erosion such as the characteristics of rainfall, slope length, slope degree, slope aspect, vegetative cover degree and types of land use were induced and summarized. Also the recent development of quantitative research on the erosion yield in small watersheds was summarized.Meanwhile, the problems of researches in these fields were discussed.
